Obituary: Madison Ella Mae Van Husen

Madison, Maine – Madison Ella Mae Van Husen, 86, of Madison, passed away on Monday, June 3, 2024 at Bolster Heights Rehabilitation and nursing in Auburn.

Early Life and Education

Ella was born in Hornell, NY on June 12, 1937, a daughter of Richard and Mary Stimson. She graduated from Canisteo Central School in 1955 and attended Culvers Beauty school in Rochester, NY.

Family and Career

On Sept. 28, 1957, Ella married the love of her life, Carl Van Husen. They were married for 56 years before Carl’s passing in 2014. In 1959, Ella and Carl moved to Jackman, Maine.

Ella was a dedicated homemaker who also worked at the school cafeteria and later at Hannafords in Madison.

Character and Legacy

Ella was known for her exceptional kindness and generosity. She was a beloved figure in her community, loved by everyone who knew her. She had a special fondness for the holidays, particularly Christmas, during which she would send out hundreds of cards with handwritten letters.

Ella was an exceptional cook, famous for her delectable chocolate chip cookies. She enjoyed dining out, especially at Ken’s restaurant, where she had her own table and chair and was treated like a member of the family.

In 2020, Ella contracted COVID-19 and spent four weeks in the hospital. Despite the doctors’ grim prognosis, she defied expectations and made a remarkable recovery.

Ella will be deeply missed by her son, Lynn Carl Van Husen, and his companion, Sharon Creighton, as well as her beloved dog, Molly. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
