SCARBOROUGH – Mark Linton Cyr, 73, passed away on July 28, 2022, at the Gosnell Hospice House with his wife and children by his side. He was born in Sanford on August 15, 1948, the youngest of two children to John and Beulah Cyr.

Mark graduated from Sanford High School in 1966. Following graduation he was employed by two local electricians as an apprentice. Eventually he attended night classes and received his Master Electrician’s License. In 1979, while continuing his evening classes he obtained an Associate of Science in Business Administration from the University of Maine.

He served in the US Navy, USNR from 1968- 1970. In the summer of 1970 he participated in a Mediterranean cruise on the USS Glover, the Navy’s first Escort Research ship and its first overseas deployment. Following his discharge from the Navy, Mark began his career at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard spanning 41 years, 31 years as a government worker and 10 years as a contracted employee. He officially retired in 2013.

Retirement was filled with golfing, dining, happy hours and travelling. He and Elaine spent many winters travelling to Florida and North Myrtle Beach. A trip to Italy in 2015 with dear Canadian friends was a highlight. A special gathering place for the family was their Rangeley vacation home. Mark was able to enjoy this past July 4th festivities there with family.

Marks true passion in retirement was following the stock market, researching, investing and assisting family members to do the same. He enjoyed watching CNBC and now the time has come for the “Closing Bell”.

Mark is survived by his wife of 48 years, Elaine (Berthiaume) Cyr; son Christopher Cyr and his significant other Heather, daughter, Lauren and significant other Chris Frates; brother and sister-in-law, John and Jane Cyr, brothers-in-law- and sisters-in-law, Brian and Diane Berthiaume, Rene and Susan Sheltra; grandson, Anders John and his sisters Hadley and Paisley; and several nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be on Monday August 8from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main Street. A private burial is scheduled for August 9.
