Mary Noeth, Beloved Ayer Resident and Educator, Passes Away at 101

Ayer, MA – June 6, 2024 – Mary J. (Kiwaczynski) Noeth, a beloved Ayer resident and former educator, passed away peacefully on June 4, 2024, at the Lifecare Center in Littleton, surrounded by her loving family.

A Life Well-Lived

Mary was born on July 30, 1922, in the North End of Boston, to Walter and Victoria (Prontkelewicz) Kiwaczynski. She grew up in the West End of Boston with her two older sisters, Stacia and Gladys. Mary attended St Joseph’s Elementary School and graduated from Boston Girls High School in 1939.

After high school, Mary worked in various clerical and sales positions before joining the Army and Air Force Exchange Service in 1943. She met her future husband, William H. Noeth Jr., while stationed at the former South Boston Army Base.

Mary and William were married in 1953 at St Mary’s of Ostrabrama Polish Catholic Church in Boston. They spent the next thirteen years as a military family, living in Alabama, Massachusetts, and Alaska.

In 1966, William retired from the army, and the family settled in Ayer. Mary became a stay-at-home mom until her children were older.

A Dedicated Educator and Community Member

In 1978, Mary began her second career as an educator, working as a lunch and recess aide at the Page-Hilltop School. She later became an aide in the school’s library, where she worked for over two decades.

Mary loved her job and was a dedicated educator. She was known for her patience, kindness, and love of children.

Mary was also an active member of the Ayer community. She was a member of St Mary’s Church, where she participated in the annual ‘Minstrel Show’ and volunteered at the annual Lawn Party.

A Loving Family

Mary was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her family was her world, and she cherished every moment she spent with them.

Mary is survived by her three children: William Noeth III and his wife, Anne, of Acton; Michael Noeth and his wife, Paula, of Ayer; and Mary Slattery and her husband, Keith, of Groton.

She is also survived by seven grandchildren: Peter and his wife, Melissa; Alycia; Michael; Christopher; Catharine; Victoria; and Caroline.

Mary was also blessed with three great-grandchildren: Lilly, Jack, and Ben.

Legacy of Love and Service

Mary Noeth was a remarkable woman who lived a long and fulfilling life. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She was also a dedicated educator and community member.

Mary will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her legacy of love and service will continue to inspire others for generations to come.

Funeral Arrangements

Mary’s funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, June 12, 2024, at 11 a.m. at St Anthony’s Church in Shirley.

There are no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Mary’s name to the VNA Care Network Home Health and Hospice (Vnacare.org) or to the Page Hilltop Elementary School Library (115 Washington St., Ayer).

The Anderson Funeral Home in Ayer is assisting the family with the arrangements.
