Humble Beginnings in the Mountains of North Carolina
Louise’s journey began in the picturesque town of Shelton Laurel, nestled amidst the majestic Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina, on May 23, 1937. Born to Prelon Ray and Coza “Cozy” Chandler Ray, she spent her idyllic childhood in this small, rural community, surrounded by nature’s embrace. Her formative years were spent exploring the verdant hills, attending local schools, and forging lifelong bonds with friends and family.
Moving Forward in Anderson, Indiana
In 1964, Louise embarked on a new chapter in her life, relocating to Anderson, Indiana. There, she found employment at Delco Remy (General Motors), where her strong work ethic and dedication quickly earned her the respect of her colleagues. She spent several years in this role, contributing to the company’s success while simultaneously building a strong foundation for her future.
A Fresh Start in Cullman, Alabama
Driven by a desire for a change of scenery and a yearning for a closer connection to family, Louise moved to Cullman, Alabama in 1976. This charming town became her new home, where she continued her professional path by working as the kitchen manager at the Elks Lodge. Her culinary skills and warm hospitality quickly made her a beloved figure within the community. She later joined the staff at the Holiday Inn in Good Hope, further cementing her reputation as a talented and valued employee.
A Family Legacy of Love and Support
Throughout her life, Louise’s unwavering love for her family was evident in everything she did. Her first marriage to William Tweed brought her immense joy and the birth of two cherished children: Steve and Lynne. After William’s untimely passing, she found love again with William “Bill” DeBruhl, who became a devoted stepfather to her children. Together, they built a blended family filled with love, laughter, and unwavering support.
Grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren, the Joy of Her Life
Louise’s heart overflowed with love for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Kaleigh Tweed, Katie Jones, Kyle Tweed, Finnegan Tweed, Ellie Tweed, Forrest Tweed, Maci Jones, and Molly Jones were the lights of her life. She cherished every moment spent with them, showering them with affection and creating memories that would last a lifetime.
A Passion for Cooking and the Written Word

In accordance with Louise’s final wishes, she will be cremated and laid to rest in the family cemetery in her birthplace, Shelton Laurel, North Carolina. She has requested that there be no visitation or formal service, but a celebration luncheon will be held at a future date to honor her memory and celebrate the extraordinary life she lived.
