In Memoriam: Amanda Ruth White Gomes (1988-2023)
A Life Remembered
Amanda Ruth White Gomes, a beloved daughter, sister, and friend, left an enduring mark on the hearts of all who knew her. Born on August 6, 1988, in Paradise, California, Amanda grew up in Granite Bay, where she attended Granite Bay Christian School.
Throughout her life, Amanda exhibited an outgoing, kind, and generous nature. She shared a deep bond with her pets and her family, and found immense joy in fishing. The ocean and Truckee, California, held a special place in her heart as favorite destinations.
Amanda’s faith played an important role in her life. She was baptized in Durham, California, and embraced Christian values. Unfortunately, in her late 20s, Amanda developed schizophrenia, a debilitating mental illness that she courageously battled until her passing.
A Legacy of Love and Memories
Amanda’s family and friends will fondly cherish her memory. She is survived by her mother, Susan White (Orland); her sister, Cy Gomes (Orland); her stepfather, James Gomes (Orland); her uncle, Kyle White (Chico); and her grandparents, Marvin and Donna White (Orland).
In honor of Amanda’s life, a graveside service will be held on Saturday, June 8, 2024, at 10:00 AM at the family’s Clear Creek Cemetery in Oroville, California (14176-4218 Clear Creek Cemetery Road, Oroville, CA 95956).
Following the graveside service, a celebration of Amanda’s life will be held at the family home in Orland, California (238 East Yolo St.). All who knew and loved Amanda are warmly invited to attend both events.
Supporting Mental Health Awareness
In recognition of Amanda’s struggle with schizophrenia, her family requests that donations be made to organizations dedicated to supporting mental health research and awareness. Contributions can be made in Amanda’s memory to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) or the Mental Health Association of America (MHA).
Amanda’s journey serves as a reminder of the importance of mental health awareness and the need for compassionate support for those facing mental illness. By remembering her life and honoring her legacy, we can help create a more understanding and supportive society for those who are struggling.
