In Memoriam: Chester L. “Chet” Delaune
A Life Filled with Love, Laughter, and Unforgettable Moments
With heavy hearts and fond memories, we announce the passing of Chester L. “Chet” Delaune on July 25th, 2024, at his residence. Surrounded by his loving family, Chet left this world peacefully, leaving behind a legacy that will continue to inspire and comfort the lives of all who knew him.
As a widowed father of two young daughters, Chet dedicated his life to providing love, support, and adventure for Cassie and Jackie. From his unforgettable role as their Girl Scout Leader to the countless motorcycle rides and camping trips, Chet showed them what it truly meant to be a legendary Dad.
In later years, Chet found the love of his life, Sharon – “My Sharona” (as he fondly called her). Together, they embarked on numerous adventures, traveling to exciting destinations and creating memories that would last a lifetime.
Chet’s love for his family extended to his cherished grandchildren: Ella, Brooklyn, Sadie, Natalie, Jack, Abbie, and Shelbie. Known affectionately as “Papoo” and “Grandpa,” he adored spending time with his grandkids, showering them with love and creating unforgettable moments.
Beyond his family, Chet was an avid movie lover, gardener, and cook. He had a knack for transforming gardens into blooming masterpieces and could prepare delicious meals that brought joy to everyone around him.
Game nights with Chet were never dull. His competitive spirit shone through in every round of Dominoes, Phase Ten, and Attack Uno, where his threats of “Waxing Hatchees” became legendary. At family gatherings, he ruled the croquet field, transforming every game into an epic showdown.
Chet’s warmth and humor were infectious. He had a gift for making everyone feel welcome and loved. His conversations were filled with laughter and infectious stories.
For decades, Chet cherished his annual camping trip to North Georgia with his close-knit group of friends. They would gather around campfires, share tall tales, and indulge in target practice. He also enjoyed fishing trips to Apalachicola, where he regaled his friends with tales of the one that got away.
Chet’s life was a testament to the power of love, family, and friendship. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His legacy of joy, laughter, and kindness will continue to inspire and warm the hearts of those he held dear.
