Obituary of Douglas Thorpe

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. – A celebration of life for Douglas Thorpe will be held on Aug. 11 from 1-3 p.m., at the Fairfield VFW.

Early Life and Career

Douglas Thorpe was born on January 1, 1945, in Waterville, Maine. He was the son of the late John and Mary Thorpe. Doug attended Fairfield schools and graduated from Lawrence High School in 1963. He went on to serve in the U.S. Army from 1965 to 1967.

After his military service, Doug worked for many years as a carpenter and construction worker. He was a skilled craftsman and took pride in his work. Doug was also an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping.

Family and Friends

Doug was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Linda; his children, Lisa (Thorpe) Smith and her husband, Scott, of Fairfield, and Michael Thorpe and his wife, Jennifer, of Sidney; and his grandchildren, Emily and Matthew Smith, and Ethan and Lily Thorpe.

Doug was also a loyal and supportive friend to many. He was always willing to lend a helping hand and was known for his kind heart and sense of humor.

Celebration of Life

The celebration of life for Doug will be held on Aug. 11 from 1-3 p.m., at the Fairfield VFW. The family invites friends and family to attend and share their memories of Doug.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.
