Obituary: Glen C. Roberts Jr., Beloved Husband, Father, and Grandfather
Funeral Services Announced for Former UAB Hospital RN and Coal Miner
Hanceville, Alabama – The community mourns the passing of Mr. Glen C. Roberts Jr., 80, who passed away on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, surrounded by loved ones at his daughter’s home in Clanton.
A Life Filled with Love and Service
Glen was born in Ensley, near Birmingham, Alabama. He was a graduate of Ensley High School and embarked on a fulfilling career path that included stints at Cowan Construction, Jim Walter’s #5 Coal Mine in Brookwood near Tuscaloosa, and UAB Hospital. In his later years, he pursued a nursing degree and served as a RN in the Neuro Intensive Care Unit at UAB Hospital and as a Hospice Nurse for nearly 17 years.
A Devoted Family Man
Glen’s family was the center of his life. He met his beloved wife, Rachel Parker Roberts, in the early 1990s. After retiring, they moved to Smith Lake, where they created countless cherished memories with their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Glen was an avid Auburn football fan and enjoyed antiquing with his wife. He also had a passion for speedboating, taking his family and friends out for thrilling rides on Smith Lake. His infectious laughter and warm smile will be deeply missed.
Legacy of Love and Support
Mr. Roberts is survived by his wife of 22 years, Rachel Parker Roberts; his children: David Glen Roberts (Nadine) of Arlington Heights, Illinois, Dana Cleckler (Arnold) of Clanton, and Jennifer Click (Dale) of Collinsville; Rachel’s children: Debbie Freeman (Charles) of Crane Hill and Lynn Benefield (David) of Lineville; 11 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Glen C. Roberts Sr. and Mary Belle Riser Roberts.
Funeral Arrangements and Tribute
Funeral services for Mr. Roberts will be held on Saturday, July 27, 2024, at Bowman’s Chapel Methodist Church in Crane Hill at 2 p.m. Pastor W. Thurmond Cleckler will officiate the service, and burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery.
Mr. Roberts will lie in state at the church from 1 p.m. until service time at 2 p.m.
Active pallbearers will include Arnold Cleckler, David Benefield, Charles Freeman, Scotty Click, Lawson Benefield, Brady Click, Noah Cleckler, and Jackson Carr.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Bowman’s Chapel Methodist Church or to a charity of your choice.
Benefield Funeral Home in Lineville is in charge of arrangements.
