Longtime Fairfield resident and volunteer passes away at 74

WATERVILLE, Maine – Gloria Jean (LaPierre) Blanchet, a longtime resident of Fairfield and a dedicated volunteer in the community, passed away on May 23, 2024, at the age of 74.

Gloria was born in Waterville on January 11, 1950, the daughter of Leodore L. and Doris M. (Saindon) LaPierre. She attended local Catholic and public schools and married Carl S. Blanchet on May 9, 1992.

Gloria worked for over 20 years in local department stores before joining the Town of Fairfield in 1987. She held various positions in the treasurer’s, assessor’s/code enforcement, and town clerk’s offices until her retirement in 2012.

When she wasn’t working, Gloria was volunteering her time to various organizations. She was a buyer and later president of the Maine Children’s Home of Little Wanderers, where she helped organize the annual Christmas Miracles event for 19 years. She also volunteered with the Fairfield Chocolate Fest, served as an officer for the Fairfield Historical Society, and was secretary for the Seton Village Council.

Gloria was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Carl; and all of her siblings, Doreen, Ronald, Marie, Louis, Theresa, and Francis. She is survived by her special niece, Crystal Pomerleau, and her family, as well as many other nieces and nephews, and her beloved dog, Bruiser.

At Gloria’s request, there will be no public wake or funeral service. Memorial donations may be made to the Maine Children’s Home of Little Wanderers, 93 Silver Street, Waterville, ME 04901.
