Obituary: Linda Ann Matthews

A Life Well Lived

Linda Ann Matthews, known affectionately as Lindy, passed away peacefully on May 28, 2024, in the comfort of her home in Fayette, Maine. She was surrounded by her loving family, who cherished every moment they had with her.

Linda’s journey began on July 24, 1950, in a loving family. As the eldest of five children, she grew up in a nurturing environment where education and strong family bonds were paramount.

Her exceptional academic abilities were evident from a young age, and she excelled in her studies. After graduating from Mt. Trinity High School in Watertown, Massachusetts, she pursued higher education at St. Francis Xavier University in Nova Scotia.

A Love Story for the Ages

It was during her time at university that Linda met the love of her life, Gene Matthews. Their connection was undeniable, and after graduating together in 1972, they embarked on a lifelong adventure as husband and wife.

Their love story spanned over 52 years, filled with countless memories, laughter, and unwavering support. Gene was her rock, her soulmate, and her constant companion.

A Devoted Mother and Grandmother

After starting a family, Linda lovingly dedicated herself to her children, Heather, Jeff, and Brett. She created a warm and welcoming home where her children thrived and developed into wonderful individuals.

As her family grew, Linda embraced her role as a grandmother with open arms. Her grandchildren, Tyler, Anna, Johny, and Mattie, held a special place in her heart, and she adored spending time with them.

A Vibrant and Accomplished Woman

Throughout her life, Linda pursued her passions with enthusiasm. She had a successful career in accounting and sales, always striving to make a positive contribution.

Her love for travel took her to many corners of the world, where she embraced new cultures and made lifelong friends. She was an avid reader, enjoyed solving crossword puzzles, and had a knack for creating delicious meals.

A Survivor in the Face of Adversity

Linda’s strength and resilience were tested when she faced two battles with cancer. With unwavering determination, she overcame both challenges, proving her indomitable spirit.

However, in her later years, she developed early onset dementia, which gradually took a toll on her memory and cognitive abilities. Despite the challenges presented by this condition, Linda’s family and friends remained steadfast in their love and support.

A Legacy of Love and Kindness

Linda Ann Matthews was a beacon of love, kindness, and empathy. Her warm smile, compassionate heart, and infectious laughter left an indelible mark on everyone who knew her.

She will be deeply missed by her beloved husband, Gene; her children, Heather, Jeff (Amy), and Brett (Kate); her cherished grandchildren, Tyler, Anna, Johny, and Mattie; her siblings, John, Joan, Anne, and Robert; and a multitude of extended family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to MaineGeneral Hospice Care Team (@ Give.MaineGeneral.org) in memory of Linda’s unwavering spirit and the exceptional care she received.

A celebration of Linda’s life will be held at a later date, where her family and friends can gather to honor her memory and share their cherished moments.
