Obituary: Sharon Lynn Elfering

A Life Filled with Love and Service

Sharon Lynn Elfering, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 21, 2024, at the age of 72. Her passing leaves a void in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

Sharon was born on March 31, 1952, in Chicago, Illinois, to John J. and Viola Grace Shukoske. She spent her childhood in Neenah, Wisconsin; Lake Villa, Illinois; and Lindenhurst, Illinois, before settling in Antioch, Illinois, in 1986.

A Dedicated Career in Education

Sharon dedicated her professional life to serving the Antioch community. She worked as a cafeteria worker for Antioch School District #34 from 1989 until 2012. Her warm and caring nature made her a favorite among students and staff alike.

A Faithful Woman of Faith

Sharon’s faith was an integral part of her life. She was a devoted member of Our Lady of the Lakes-St. Peter Church in Antioch, where she actively participated as a Eucharistic minister. Her unwavering devotion to her faith inspired those around her.

Family, Her Greatest Joy

Sharon’s family was her greatest joy. She loved spending time with her husband, children, and grandchildren. She was a pillar of strength and support for her family, always putting their needs before her own.

Memory Eternal

Sharon was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Edward J. Elfering, in 2016. She is survived by her three children: Cindy (John) Jilly of Antioch, IL; James Elfering of Antioch, IL; and Daniel Elfering of Spring Grove, IL; seven grandchildren: Sienna, Samantha, and Jonah Elfering and Jordan, Kyle, Sara, and Ryan Jilly; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Sharon’s funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 25, 2024, at Our Lady of the Lakes-St. Peter Church in Antioch, Illinois. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 24, 2024, at Strang Funeral Home in Antioch.

May Sharon’s memory be eternal, and may her spirit continue to inspire those who knew and loved her.
