Victor Briggs, Prominent Businessman and Community Leader, Dies at 78

Oroville, California (June 13th, 2024) – Victor Briggs, the beloved owner of Briggs Car Care Center and a pillar of the Oroville community, passed away peacefully on May 24th, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Despite a valiant four-year battle with cancer, his spirit remained unwavering.

Early Life and Education

Victor Briggs was born on March 25th, 1946, in Red Bluff, California. His family embarked on a series of relocations throughout Northern California before settling in Newcastle in 1967. Victor graduated from Bella Vista High School in Orangeville and enrolled in the Navy Reserve, where he was sworn in by his father. He later attended American River Junior College and Chico State University, graduating in 1969 with a degree in Business Marketing.

Military Service and Marriage

Shortly after graduating from college, Victor was called to active duty and deployed to Japan in 1969. Two months later, he was reunited with his newlywed wife, Joan Cook, who joined him at Atsugi Air Naval Station. Victor served as a Communication Yeoman until 1971.

Business Career

Upon returning to the United States, Victor embarked on a diverse business career. He held positions at Goodyear Tire, Campbell Soup, Gehlco Tractor, Dandal Manufacturing, and Briggs’ Firestone, which he established in 1985. In 1997, he purchased a new store site at Feather River Blvd. and rebranded his business as Briggs Car Care Center, Inc.

Victor’s success as a businessman was attributed to his unwavering customer focus, dedication to innovation, and genuine respect for his employees. He remained active in professional development, attending numerous classes to stay abreast of industry trends and better serve his customers.

Community Involvement

Beyond his business pursuits, Victor was deeply committed to his community. He was an active member of Butte County Search and Rescue, the Knights of Columbus Council 2603, and St. Thomas the Apostle Church. He served on the church’s Finance Committee for 23 years, spearheading countless improvements to the church and school facilities.

Victor’s passion for community extended to the Salvation Army, where he played a significant role in supporting those in need.

Personal Life

Victor and Joan, his loving wife of 55 years, raised two sons, Daniel and Darren. He took immense pride in his grandchildren, Conner, Isabelle, Bristol, Peyton, Alya, and Tanner.

In his spare time, Victor enjoyed hot rods, boating, hunting, camping, fishing, and off-roading. He was known for his infectious enthusiasm for life and his ability to create lasting memories with his family and friends.

Legacy

Victor Briggs’ legacy as a successful businessman, dedicated community leader, and loving family man will continue to inspire those who knew him. His contributions to the Oroville community will forever be etched in its history.

Services for Victor Briggs will be held at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 1330 Bird St., Oroville, CA 95965. A rosary is scheduled for June 12th at 7:00 pm, followed by a funeral mass on June 13th at 11:00 am with a reception following.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Victor’s name to St. Thomas the Apostle School, 1380 Bird St., Oroville, CA 95965.
