Beloved Husband, Brother, Uncle, and Friend

Philip Alison Trask, 76, a lifelong resident of Maine, passed away peacefully at his home in South China on May 16, 2024. Born in Bar Harbor during the devastating fire of 1947, Phil was the youngest of five children born to C. Orville and Esther (Moore)

Early Life and Education

Growing up in the picturesque village of Bernard on Mount Desert Island, Phil attended Pemetic High School, graduating in 1966. He went on to pursue his education at Eastern Maine Vocational Technical Institute (now known as Eastern Maine Community
College), where he earned an Associate Degree.

Professional Career

Following graduation, Phil embarked on a successful career as a draftsman for the Maine Department of Transportation. His meticulous attention to detail and exceptional skills earned him a promotion to senior right of way draftsman, a position he held until his
retirement in 2005.

Family and Married Life

On August 19, 1972, Phil married the love of his life, Donna Gurney. Together, they built a loving and fulfilling life in South China. Donna became Phil’s constant companion and soulmate, enriching his life with unwavering love and support.

Personal Passions and Hobbies

Throughout his life, Phil remained an active and engaged individual. He was an avid gym-goer, finding solace in the pursuit of physical fitness. He also enjoyed cross-country skiing, cycling, gardening, and woodworking. His exceptional craftsmanship was evident in
his scaled models of sailing vessels, particularly his father’s lobster boat, the Esther II.

Phil’s gentle and compassionate nature made him a beloved figure among his family and friends. His hugs were legendary, offering comfort and warmth to those around him. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Phil is survived by his devoted wife of 51 years, Donna Gurney Trask; his siblings Muriel Davisson, George “Bud” Trask, C. Brian Trask, and Emmy Trask-Eaton and her spouse, Jim Eaton; as well as eight nieces and nephews and numerous great-nieces and
