The Cleveland community mourns the passing of Raymond “Ray” Amato, a beloved barber and Vietnam Veteran who passed away on August 3, 2024, at the age of 85. Amato was a pillar of the community for over six decades, leaving behind a legacy of love, compassion, and wisdom.

A Life of Service and Community

Born on April 27, 1939, in Cleveland, Amato served his country with honor in the Vietnam War, embodying the values of courage and commitment. After returning home, he pursued a fulfilling career as a barber, establishing shops at various locations in Cleveland, including the Richmond Mall, Erin Medical Center, and The Barbershop at Breckenridge. His chair was not just a place for haircuts but a hub for community, where clients from all walks of life gathered to seek his sage advice and enjoy his wealth of trivia knowledge.

Amato’s clientele included esteemed professionals, athletes, and admired women, a testament to his unwavering dedication to his craft and his ability to connect with people from all backgrounds. His barbershop was a place where people could not only get a great haircut but also engage in lively conversations, share stories, and learn from Amato’s vast knowledge.

A Cherished Legacy

Amato’s life was filled with love and family. He is survived by his cherished daughter, Sarah-Beth Angel (Ben), his devoted companion, Kathleen Rosacco, his granddaughters Victoria Angel and Tia Riss, as well as his great-granddaughters Raelynn and Viviann. He is also survived by his beloved sister, Madeline Vartorella (George-deceased), along with many nieces and nephews.

Amato’s passing leaves a void in the hearts of his family, friends, and the countless people whose lives he touched. His legacy of service, compassion, and community building will continue to inspire those who knew him.

Celebration of Life

A visitation will be held at Monreal Srnick Funeral Home, 35400 Curtis Blvd, Eastlake on Thursday, August 8, 2024, from 3pm till 7pm with a funeral service at 7pm.

The family of Raymond Amato invites the community to join them in celebrating his life and honoring his memory.
