The Waterville community is deeply saddened to announce the passing of Laurier “Larry” Guimond, a cherished veteran and a pillar of the local community. Mr. Guimond passed away peacefully on June 18, 2024, at the age of 91, surrounded by his loved ones.
A lifelong resident of Waterville, Mr. Guimond was a proud veteran who served his country with distinction during World War II. After returning home, he continued to serve his community in various capacities. He was an active member of the Calumet Club and a dedicated volunteer with several local organizations.
A Life of Service and Dedication
Mr. Guimond’s commitment to community was evident in all aspects of his life. He served on the Waterville City Council for many years and was instrumental in shaping the city’s development.
He was also a passionate advocate for veterans. He served as the commander of the local VFW post and played a key role in organizing community events honoring veterans.
Cherished Family Man and Friend
Beyond his community involvement, Mr. Guimond was a devoted family man. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, and his family was his greatest joy.
Mr. Guimond was known for his kind heart, infectious laugh, and unwavering spirit. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and the entire Waterville community.
Memorial Services
A memorial service for Mr. Guimond will be held on September 20, 2024, at 1 p.m., at the Maine Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery in Augusta. A Life Celebration will follow at 2 p.m. at the Calumet Club.
The family requests that donations in Mr. Guimond’s memory be made to the Calumet Club or the Waterville Area Veterans Association.
