Obituary: Richard B. Foster, Beloved Husband, Father, and Friend
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Richard B. Foster, known affectionately as “Pa,” who passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, July 20, 2024, at Thayer Hospital in Waterville, Maine. He was 72 years old.
Early Life and Education
Richard was born in Skowhegan, Maine, on April 1, 1952, to Edwin and Irene Foster. He grew up in Moscow, Maine, at the family-owned Foster’s Camps. Richard graduated from Upper Kennebec Valley High School in Bingham, Maine, in 1971 and went on to attend Northern Maine Vocational Technical College in Presque Isle, Maine, where he graduated in 1973 with a degree in design drafting.
Career and Accomplishments
Richard embarked on a successful career in design drafting, working for various companies throughout his career. He was known for his strong work ethic and dedication to his craft, whether it was designing homes, hydro projects, or other engineering projects.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, Richard was also actively involved in his community. He held various offices in the Grange in Bingham, Solon, and Troy, and served as a Cub Scout and Boy Scout leader in Solon.
Family and Friendships
Richard’s family was the center of his world. He was a devoted husband to his wife of 48 years, Madeline (Maddy) Gervais Foster, and a loving father to his children, Michael R. Chiott, Rose-Marie (Anthony) Bick, and Samantha Foster Wells (Michael Wells).
Richard was a proud grandfather and great-grandfather to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He cherished every moment with his family, whether it was spending time outdoors, teaching them about nature, or simply enjoying each other’s company.
Richard was also a loyal friend to many. He was always there for those in need, offering a helping hand, a listening ear, or a shoulder to lean on. His friends describe him as a kind, compassionate, and selfless person who always put others before himself.
Hobbies and Passions
In his spare time, Richard enjoyed a variety of hobbies and passions. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved hiking, camping, fishing, and hunting. He also enjoyed playing chess, coaching soccer, and spending time with his family and friends.
Legacy and Remembrance
Richard B. Foster will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and community. He was a remarkable man who touched the lives of many with his kindness, generosity, and love. His legacy will continue to live on through his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and through the many lives he touched throughout his lifetime.
A celebration of life for Richard (Pa) Foster will be held at New Hope Church on Route 201 in Solon, Maine, at 1 p.m. on Saturday, August 17, 2024. Immediately following, there will be a small luncheon. The family would like to thank Waldo County Communication, Unity Ambulance, the emergency room staff at Maine General Thayer, Dr. Sam, BriAnna, Julius, and many more staff members who were so supportive of the family during this difficult time.
