Obituary: Richard B. Foster, 72, of Unity
Richard B. Foster, lovingly known as “Pa,” passed away peacefully on July 20, 2024, in Waterville, Maine, at the age of 72. He was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, who will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
Early Life and Family
Richard was born on March 15, 1952, in Unity, Maine. He spent his formative years in the small town, where he developed a strong work ethic and a love for the outdoors. After graduating from Unity High School, Richard attended the University of Maine at Orono, where he earned a degree in forestry.
In 1976, Richard met the love of his life, Elizabeth “Libby” Thomas. They married a year later and went on to have two children, Sarah and David. The family lived in Unity, where Richard worked as a forester for the Maine Department of Agriculture.
Community Involvement
Richard was deeply committed to his community. He served as a volunteer firefighter for over 25 years and was an active member of the Unity Lions Club. Richard was also passionate about supporting local youth, and he coached Little League baseball and soccer for many years.
Outside of his volunteer work, Richard enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and he loved to share his love of the outdoors with others. Richard was also a talented musician and often performed at local events and gatherings.
Legacy of Love and Service
Richard’s legacy is one of love, service, and dedication. He was a hard-working and compassionate man who always put the needs of his family and community first. Richard will be remembered for his infectious smile, his kind heart, and his unwavering commitment to making the world a better place.
Memorial Service
A life celebration for Richard Foster will be held on August 17, 2024, at 1 p.m. at the New Hope Church in Solon, Maine. All who knew and loved Richard are welcome to attend.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Richard’s memory to the Unity Fire Department or the Unity Lions Club.
Richard B. Foster will be deeply missed by his beloved wife, Elizabeth; his children, Sarah (and husband, John) and David (and wife, Susan); his grandchildren, Emily, Joshua, and Abigail; his brother, Robert; and his many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
