Winslow Resident Ronald F. McDonald Passes Away at 85
Ronald F. McDonald, a longtime resident of Winslow, passed away on July 29, 2024, at the age of 85. He was born in Waterville, Maine, on January 10, 1939, to the late John and Mary (Smith) McDonald.
Ronald grew up in Winslow and attended Winslow High School, where he was a standout athlete in football and basketball. After graduating from high school, he served in the United States Army for two years. He then returned to Winslow and worked as a machinist for Scott Paper Company for 35 years. He retired in 2004.
Ronald was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Church in Winslow and the Winslow American Legion. He enjoyed spending time with his family, gardening, and woodworking.
Ronald is survived by his wife of 63 years, Joan (Poulin) McDonald; his children, Ronald Jr. (wife, Patricia) of Winslow, and Susan (husband, Thomas) of Augusta; his grandchildren, Michael, Matthew, and Emily; and his great-grandchild, Aiden.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on August 9, 2024, at 10 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Church in Winslow. Burial will follow at the Pine Grove Cemetery in Winslow, with a reception to follow at the Winslow American Legion.
