It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Thelma Ilene Horton Williams, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, who passed away peacefully on July 6, 2024, at the age of 88.

A Life of Love and Hardship

Thelma was born on December 22, 1935, in Cullman County, Alabama, to Art and Gracie Ilene Scott Horton. She grew up in a close-knit family, surrounded by her siblings. As a young woman, Thelma married the love of her life, Ben Williams, and together they raised a family in Cullman.

Thelma and Ben worked tirelessly as poultry farmers, providing for their family and instilling in their children the values of hard work and perseverance. Thelma was a dedicated wife and mother, raising three children and supporting her husband’s endeavors. Despite the challenges and hardships of life, Thelma’s unwavering faith in God sustained her.

A Woman of Faith and Community

Thelma was a devoted member of Center Point Baptist Church, where she found fellowship and spiritual guidance throughout her life. She actively participated in church activities, worship services, and community outreach programs. Thelma’s strong faith was a beacon of hope and inspiration to her family and friends.

Beyond her church involvement, Thelma was an integral part of the Cullman community. She was known for her kindness, generosity, and love of gardening. Her beautiful quilts brought warmth and comfort to many homes, while her canned vegetables were a testament to her culinary skills.

Cherished Memories and Legacy

Thelma leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and enduring family bonds. She is survived by her children: Mark Allen Williams (Suzette), Debra Ann Howard (Mark), and Teresa Dunn (Jon). Her grandchildren, Tracey Stephens (Tony), Heath Williams (Amanda), Austin Williams, Tiffany Chambers, Matt Calvert, and Wesley Cummings (Lera), will forever treasure their memories of their loving grandmother.

Thelma’s great-grandchildren, Brody Howard, Emma Howard, Kaitlyn Walton (Brett), Erin Rowell (Austin), Michael Chambers, Emma Wooten, Maleah Chambers, Makenzie Williams, Olivia Williams, Madison Cummings, Corey Cummings, Madison Calvert, and Eva Calvert, will carry her legacy forward with pride.

Thelma’s great-great-grandchildren, Lawson Rowell, Luke Rowell, Lily Rowell, Levi Rowell, Mia Johnson, Zayden Johnson, and Nevaeh Cummings, will be told stories of their great-great-grandmother’s kindness, faith, and boundless love.

A Celebration of Life

Funeral services for Ms. Thelma will be held on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Center Point Baptist Church. Brother Josh Drake and Brother Mike Hill will officiate the service. Friends are invited to join the family for a time of visitation at the church from 12:30 p.m. until the time of the service.

Following the funeral services, Thelma will be laid to rest in the adjoining cemetery. Heath Williams, Landon Hunter, Brody Howard, Matt Calvert, Adam Farr, and Jason Smith will serve as pallbearers.

Honoring Thelma’s Legacy

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Cullman Caring for Kids in memory of Thelma. Her love for children and her commitment to her community will continue to inspire others through this organization.
