Vera Anderson, Beloved Boxer Dog Breeder, Judge, and Animal Advocate, Passes Away at 71
A Lifetime Dedicated to Dogs
Vera Anderson, a legendary figure in the world of boxer dog breeding and judging, passed away peacefully on June 1, 2024, after a courageous battle with metastatic cancer. She was surrounded by her loving family.
Vera’s passion for dogs, especially boxers, began at an early age. In 1965, she purchased her first boxer, a classic brindle male of the Mazelaine lines, and thus began the story of Bavaria’s Boxers prefix.
Over the span of five decades, Vera dedicated herself to the breeding and showing of boxers, achieving remarkable success. She finished numerous boxers under the Bavaria’s name and earned a Sire of Merit, two Dams of Merit, and a third place Top Producing Sire.
Her expertise extended beyond breeding. Vera served as an AKC Boxer Judge since 2006 and became an International Judge in 2010, judging in countries such as Australia, Mexico, and throughout the United States. Her lifelong dream came true when she judged for the American Boxer Club in Indianapolis in May of 2024.
Vera’s knowledge and dedication to all breeds led her to teach conformation classes from 1988-2006 and share her insights through instructive CDs on training. Her passion for animal welfare extended to the development of the Tagamet/Benadryl Cancer Remission Protocol for Dogs, which has improved the quality of life for countless dogs worldwide.
A Devoted Family Woman
A Legacy of Motherhood, Grandmotherhood, and Great-Grandmotherhood
Vera’s love for animals was only surpassed by her unwavering devotion to her family. She was a beloved mother to her three children, Bret, Melanie, and Scot, and a cherished grandmother and great-grandmother to her six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Vera raised her children while working full-time, instilling in them the same work ethic that she exemplified. She was a dedicated softball and baseball coach, sharing her love of sports with her children.
As a grandmother, Vera took great joy in spending time with her grandchildren, taking them to dog shows and involving them in raising litters of puppies. Her grandchildren have fond memories of working on home and yard projects alongside their grandmother.
Christmas held a special place in Vera’s heart, as she loved hosting the family and making homemade gifts. She cherished the memories created with her loved ones, celebrating milestones and cherishing every moment.
A Love Story and a Soulmate
Fate brought Vera together with William Anderson, her soulmate, while judging a Boxer Show in Sydney, Australia in 2010. Their shared love of dogs and passion for the sport forged an unbreakable bond.
On January 15, 2015, Vera and Bill married in McHenry, IL, celebrating their union with a dinner cruise on Lake Geneva, WI, where Bill serenaded Vera with a song they had written together.
In 2016, they built their dream home in Bristol, WI, naming it “Evermore.” Together, they shared a love of adventure, traveling to Scotland, Australia, Mexico, Alaska, and other states in the U.S.
Vera and Bill judged Boxer Specialties across the USA, creating memories and sharing their expertise. They enjoyed animal watching and feeding the wildlife on their property.
A Legacy of Compassion and Support
Vera’s passing is a profound loss to the dog breeding and animal welfare communities. Her unwavering dedication, passion for dogs, and commitment to helping others will continue to inspire and guide those who follow in her footsteps.
