Brunswick Woman Passes Away Peacefully at Home

Viola Marie Miles, 85, of Brunswick, Maine, passed away peacefully at home on July 21, 2023. She was surrounded by her loving family and friends.

Viola was born on May 15, 1938, in Brunswick, Maine, to John and Mary (Smith) Miles. She graduated from Brunswick High School in 1956 and went on to attend the University of Maine at Farmington, where she earned a degree in education.

Viola taught elementary school in Brunswick for over 30 years. She was a dedicated and passionate educator who loved working with children. She was also actively involved in her community, volunteering her time with the local soup kitchen and food pantry.

Viola was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Richard Miles; her children, John Miles of Brunswick, and Mary Miles of Topsham; her grandchildren, Sarah Miles of Portland, and John Miles Jr. of Brunswick; and her great-grandchildren, Emily Miles and Jack Miles.

A celebration of Viola’s life will be held on September 1, 2023, from 1-3 p.m. at the Brunswick Elks Lodge. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Brunswick Food Pantry in Viola’s memory.
