The Online Document Translator turns pasted text or an uploaded .txt file into another language. Pick from 108 target languages, click Translate, then copy the result or save it as a text file. This Online Document Translator is built for short documents, notes and messages. It sends your text to a translation service, so do not use it for private or secret content.
How to use the Online Document Translator
- Click “Upload TXT Document:” and choose a .txt file, or paste your text in the box under “Or Paste Text Here:”.
- Open “Select Target Language:” and pick the language you want.
- Click “Translate”.
- Read the result under “Translated Text:”.
- Click “Copy Text” to copy it, or “Download as TXT” to save it as a file named translated_text.txt.
If you both paste text and choose a file, the pasted text is used and the file is ignored.
Worked example
Paste the sentence “Hello, how are you?” and choose Spanish as the target language, then click Translate. The translation service returns “Hola, ¿cómo estás?”, shown under “Translated Text:”. From there, “Copy Text” puts it on your clipboard ready to paste into a message or document.
The same steps work with a file. Choose a .txt file holding that sentence, leave the text box empty, pick Spanish and click Translate. The tool reads the file in your browser, sends its text to the translation service, and shows the same result under “Translated Text:”. For the same words, a file and pasted text give the same output, so use whichever is quicker for you.
Example results
| English input | Target language | Translation |
|---|---|---|
| Hello, how are you? | Spanish | Hola, ¿cómo estás? |
| Thank you very much. | French | Merci beaucoup. |
| Good morning. | German | Guten Morgen. |
| Where is the station? | Italian | Dov’è la stazione? |
| See you tomorrow. | Portuguese | Até amanhã. |
Short, clear sentences like these translate most cleanly. Long sentences packed with slang, jokes or local sayings are where machine translation most often bends the meaning, whatever language pair you pick from the list. If a result reads strangely, split the sentence into shorter parts and translate each part on its own.
Limits and good to know
- Only plain text files (.txt) are accepted. Word documents and PDFs are not supported.
- There is no source language picker. The service works out the input language on its own.
- Formatting is not kept. Headings, bold text and tables come back as plain text.
- Translation is done by an online service, so you need a connection, and results can be wrong for slang, names and technical terms.
- Very long files may fail or be cut by the service. Split big documents into smaller parts.
- The tool makes no promise on accuracy. Check important translations with a human reader.
- The language list sets the target only. There are no dialect options, such as European or Latin American Spanish.
Why is my result empty or wrong?
- You see “Please upload a TXT file or enter text in the textarea.”: both inputs were empty. Add text or a file first.
- You see “Only TXT files are supported.”: the chosen file is not a plain text file. Save it as .txt and try again.
- You see “Error translating content: Translation API error”: the translation service did not answer. Wait a moment and retry, or try a shorter text.
- “Download as TXT” does nothing: use “Copy Text” instead and paste the result into your own file.
- The wording sounds off: machine translation can miss tone and context. Shorten long sentences and translate again.
- The result is in the wrong language: check the choice under “Select Target Language:” and translate again. The list is long, and neighbouring entries are easy to tap by mistake.
Keep files small and plain, and the tool stays quick and simple from start to finish.
One more habit helps: translate a short test sentence first. If that comes back well, the rest of your document is likely to read well too.
Which files and languages work best
The upload box accepts plain text files only — files ending in .txt. Word documents, PDFs and spreadsheets cannot be read by this tool, so copy their text into a .txt file first, or paste the text into the text box instead; both routes give the same result. The language list holds more than 100 target languages, from Afrikaans to Zulu, including Spanish, French, German, Arabic, Hindi, Chinese and Japanese. Short, clear sentences translate best. Long documents are sent to the translation service in one single request, so a very large file can fail or take a long time; splitting a book-length file into chapters of a few thousand words each is the reliable way to translate it. Formatting is not carried over: the result is plain text, with line breaks kept but fonts, headings and tables removed.
Why use this Online Document Translator?
It handles a whole short document in one go, not just a word or a sentence at a time, and offers 108 target languages in a single simple list. You can paste text or load a .txt file, read the result on the page, and leave with the translation copied or saved as a file, all without creating an account or installing anything.
Online Document Translator – frequently asked questions
Which file types can the Online Document Translator read?
Only plain text files with a .txt ending. You can also skip files and paste your text straight into the box.
How many languages can I translate into?
The list offers 108 target languages, from Afrikaans, Albanian and Arabic to Welsh, Yiddish and Zulu. Popular choices such as Spanish, French, German, Hindi, Japanese and Portuguese are all included.
Do I need to pick the language my text is written in?
No. There is no source language picker. The translation service detects the input language and translates into the target you choose.
Is my document private?
Your text is sent to an online translation service to be translated, so it does not stay only in your browser. Avoid confidential documents.
