Pearland storm drain rescue leads to forever home for puppy.
A New Year’s Miracle: Puppy Rescued from Storm Drain Finds Forever Home

A terrier mix puppy, now named Cody, began 2025 in the most unexpected way – rescued from a Pearland storm drain. His cries were heard by a concerned couple who immediately contacted the Pearland Fire Department. Firefighters responded swiftly, working diligently to free the frightened pup from his precarious situation.

After his dramatic rescue, Cody was entrusted to the Pearland Police Department Animal Services. Despite sustaining minor injuries, he received much-needed warmth and care before being transferred to the Houston Humane Society Animal Clinic for medical attention. The clinic ensured Cody was healthy and ready for his next chapter.

The Houston Humane Society held Cody for 72 hours, hoping his original family would come forward. However, when no one claimed him, Cody became eligible for adoption. The Humane Society used this opportunity to highlight the importance of microchipping pets, a service readily available at their clinic seven days a week.

Cody’s luck dramatically changed when a loving family chose him for adoption. He is now happily settling into his forever home, a perfect start to the new year.

Inspired by Cody’s story? The Houston Humane Society continuously needs foster families and adopters to help animals in need. Fostering provides a temporary, safe haven for animals until they find their permanent homes. To learn more about fostering, adopting, or microchipping your pet, visit houstonhumane.org.
