A Queensland man who killed his pregnant partner before dumping her body in the back of a car will spend at least nine years and seven months in prison.

Traven Lee Fisher, 39, pleaded guilty to manslaughter in Brisbane’s Supreme Court earlier this month, after his murder charge was dropped.

The body of his 31-year-old partner Kardell Lomas — who was seven months pregnant at the time — was found in the boot of a car on the couple’s Ipswich property on December 10, 2019.

The 31-year-old’s body was found in Raceview after police were tipped off by a concerned neighbour.

It is believed Lomas had been in the car for around two days after her death.

Fisher also pleaded guilty to destruction of an unborn child and interfering with a corpse.

On Wednesday, he was sentenced to 14 years prison, with a non-parole period of nine years and seven months.

Fisher and Lomas had been in a relationship for 12 months before her death and he was the father of their unborn child.

A day before Lomas is believed to have been killed, the pair had been to an antenatal appointment together.

On December 8, two days before her body was found, neighbours heard an argument at the couple’s Ipswich property, west of Brisbane.

Crown prosecutor Todd Fuller said Fisher most likely killed Lomas on that day.

“Get up you dog, get up,” Fisher was heard saying at the time.

The next day, he asked a friend to help him “move something”.

Lomas’ cause of death is unknown — due to the decomposition of her body — but it’s believed Fisher strangled her to death before placing her in the boot of his car.

After killing her, Fisher made a calculated attempt to distance himself from the killing, Fuller said.

On December 9, he sent messages to relatives asking to let him know if they had seen Lomas.

Fisher also sent a message to Lomas’ phone asking “why she always takes off when she is the only one he ever loved”.

He later told police Lomas had a history of staying with friends, sometimes for up to a month.

Fisher will be eligible for parole in November 2029.
