## Qureshi Implicated in Eight Additional Cases Linked to May 9 Unrest
Lahore, Punjab, Pakistan – Former Pakistani Foreign Minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Vice-Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi has been named in eight additional First Information Reports (FIRs) by the Lahore Police in connection with the May 9 unrest.
The cases against Qureshi stem from incidents that occurred during violent protests following the ouster of Imran Khan as Prime Minister. He is currently incarcerated in Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail on multiple charges, including an ongoing trial under the Official Secrets Act.
Police Attempt to Arrest Qureshi
On Sunday, a police team visited the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Lahore to request an arrest warrant for Qureshi in an FIR registered at the Sarwar Road police station. However, the court declined to grant the request due to security concerns.
Instead, the court authorized the investigation officer to interrogate Qureshi at Adiala Jail within three days. The police obtained a court order deeming Qureshi under physical remand for this purpose and proceeded to take his statement.
PTI Denounces Arrests
The PTI Spokesperson strongly condemned the arrest warrants, calling them unjustified and part of a pattern of harassment against party leaders. He asserted that the court had previously granted Qureshi bail in all other cases, highlighting the dubious grounds for the additional charges.
The Spokesperson linked the arrests to Qureshi’s support for Imran Khan, alleging that the government is resorting to “lawlessness” to keep him imprisoned. He vowed that the PTI would challenge the charges and defend its members.
Ongoing Investigation and Developments
The Lahore Police are actively investigating the May 9 unrest, and it remains to be seen if further charges will be filed against Qureshi or other individuals. The PTI maintains its innocence and has pledged to fight the allegations.
