It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Richard J. Harrison, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend.

Richard passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, May 17, 2024, at the age of 86. He was surrounded by his loving family.

Life and Legacy

Richard was born in Dorchester, Massachusetts, on November 23, 1937, to Gertrude M. (Lausier) and George R. Harrison. Upon graduating from high school, Richard proudly served his country in the United States Navy.

After his military service, Richard embarked on a successful career as a chief cook at the Edith Nourse Rogers Memorial Veterans Hospital. He dedicated over 40 years to his profession, earning the respect and admiration of his colleagues and patients.

In his retirement, Richard remained active and engaged in his community. He found joy in umpiring baseball games for the Greater Lowell Umpires Association, where he spent over 25 years sharing his passion for the sport.

Richard’s unwavering love for his family was evident in everything he did. He was a devoted husband to Monique O. (Belanger) Harrison for 58 years until her passing in 2020. Together, they raised three children: Robert, Steven, and Janet.

Richard’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought immeasurable joy to his life. He cherished every moment he spent with them, attending their sporting events, birthdays, and family gatherings.

Richard’s kind and generous spirit touched the lives of many. He was a loyal friend, always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need.

Richard is survived by his loving children:

  • Robert Harrison and his wife Beth (Hauze) of Venice, FL
  • Steven Harrison and his wife Terri (Hreha) of Westford
  • Janet Harrison of Brattleboro, VT

His cherished grandchildren:

  • Tyler Harrison
  • Jason Shatney
  • Brett Harrison and his wife Brianna
  • Nicole Harrison

His two precious great-grandchildren:

  • Brantley
  • Mariana

His loving sisters:

  • Ann Tanguay of Merrimack, NH
  • Aline Cameron and her husband James of Lowell

His brother-in-law:

  • Joan (Dery) Harrison of Lowell

As well as numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Predeceased By

Richard was predeceased by his beloved wife, Monique O. (Belanger) Harrison; his parents, Gertrude M. (Lausier) and George R. Harrison; his brother, George F. Harrison; and his brother-in-law, Joseph Tanguay.

Services

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Richard’s Life Celebration on Thursday, May 23, 2024, from 9 until 11 AM at the McKENNA-OUELLETTE FUNERAL HOME, Lowell.

His Funeral Service will be celebrated immediately following at 11 AM in the funeral home.

Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Chelmsford.
