Part of the Santa Cruz Wharf has collapsed after being battered by waves during a high surf warning. A KGO-TV camera at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk captured footage of a section of the wharf floating in the water. KION-TV reports that three people fell into the water as a result. Two required rescue by the Santa Cruz Fire Department, while one person was able to self-evacuate.

The National Weather Service has issued a warning for everyone to stay out of the water and avoid jetties, piers, and other waterside structures. Beachgoers are specifically cautioned against turning their backs to the ocean. Further updates on this developing story will follow.
