Severe Weather Sweeps Through Houston Area on Christmas Eve

Cypress, Texas – Severe weather, including golf-ball-sized hail, swept through the Houston area on Christmas Eve, December 24, 2024. A tornado warning was issued for the region in the afternoon, with isolated strong storms expected to continue overnight.

KPRC 2 viewers shared numerous videos and photos on social media depicting the intense hailstorm in Cypress. Following a possible tornado, hail intensified significantly. Strong and gusty winds were anticipated throughout the night and into Christmas morning, along with the possibility of strong wind gusts, lightning, and heavy rain. Users on X (formerly Twitter) also posted dramatic images and videos of the storm’s impact on Cypress.

Overnight, additional hail reports were submitted from areas such as Greatwood Lake in Richmond, Texas. However, conditions were expected to improve by Christmas morning.
