WEATHER ALERT
HOUSTON – Severe storms impacting the Houston area over the past few days have caused significant delays at Bush Intercontinental Airport. Hundreds of travelers were left stranded Sunday morning, many waiting for their luggage since Saturday morning. At Terminal C, lengthy lines formed at baggage claim as frustrated passengers sought answers from United Airlines.
Earlier, United Airlines requested a ground stop from the Federal Aviation Administration. Airport sources told KPRC 2 that the airline initially attributed the delays to staffing issues before citing weather conditions as the cause. This follows severe storms, including reported tornadoes, that swept through the Houston area on Saturday and earlier this week. (See our weather coverage for photos and videos.)
Adding to the travel woes, AAA reports that Sunday is a peak travel day for post-Christmas returns. KPRC 2 has reached out to United Airlines for comment on the delays but has yet to receive a response.
