## Bill Skarsgård Set to Film *Lord of War* Sequel This Year
Bill Skarsgård, known for his roles in *Nosferatu* and *IT*, has expressed excitement about his upcoming role in the sequel to *Lord of War*. He will be playing the son of Nicolas Cage’s character, Yuri Orlov, in this highly anticipated project.
Production on the film, helmed by director Andrew Niccol, was initially slated to begin last year. Producer Karim Debbagh of Kasbah Films revealed ambitious plans to the *Variety*, outlining an extensive international shoot encompassing locations across four or five African countries (Libya, Egypt, Senegal, and Mali), alongside several Middle Eastern locations. Morocco, with its diverse landscapes, has emerged as a crucial filming hub, offering a range of settings from bustling Casablancan neighborhoods to areas resembling the arid landscapes of Libya, Yemen, or Syria.
Speaking on the *Happy, Sad, Confused* podcast while promoting *Nosferatu*, Skarsgård provided an update on the filming schedule. He stated that production is likely to commence in 2025, describing the script as “great” and his character as “a charismatic fking ahole.” He further elaborated on the film’s dark comedic tone, mirroring the cynical and satirical nature of the original *Lord of War*. He added that he enjoys the comedic aspect of portraying morally reprehensible characters.
The sequel’s plot reportedly centers on a father-son dynamic, with Skarsgård’s character, Anton Orlov, attempting to surpass his father’s illicit arms dealing by forming a mercenary army to engage in conflicts in the Middle East. Debbagh also indicated that the production will employ a substantial crew, incorporating approximately 400-500 people, with 100 hailing from the U.S. and the U.K. He also highlighted the growing expertise of the Moroccan film crew, fostered by numerous international productions and dedicated film schools.
