Most holiday shopping is behind us, but now many Americans are headed to stores for a different reason: returns. Returns are expected to hit an all-time high this year, coinciding with stricter retailer policies. Several major retailers, including H&M, Zara, American Eagle, and T.J. Maxx, have begun charging for returns. Others, such as Best Buy, have set earlier return deadlines—January 14th—and may impose restocking fees on higher-priced items. Amazon and Walmart both have a January 31st return deadline.
