The department said it was conducting a criminal investigation against a man for allegedly sexually assaulting a child. Once the investigation was completed, police were able to obtain an arrest warrant for the man.
On Tuesday, police received information that the man was in the southeastern Houston area, so they drove there to serve the warrant.
Police chased him briefly before he turned into a business parking lot on Mosley Road.
Police said two Hitchcock officers shot him after the man got out of the car with a gun and “engaged with the officers.”
Captain Jeffrey Evans said he was receiving medical help from officers until the Houston Fire Department took him to the hospital.
The man was later confirmed dead at the hospital.
No officers were injured in this shooting.
The Houston Police Department will assist the Hitchcock Police Department in this investigation.
