Supporters have so far been left in the dark about how officials reached their conclusions, relying on repetition and expert analysis.

According to The Times, the aim is for the public to listen and get a clearer understanding and explanation of how decisions are being made this season.

However, the recordings would not be released until after full-time due to live broadcast rules.

The proposal has widespread support, claims Premier League boss Richard Masters.

He said: “There is a general view that [releasing the audio] is a good thing.

“There’s a desire to be more open with the fans about the referee’s decision making and how exactly we do that we need to work out.”

The Premier League introduced VAR for the 2019-20 season.

Similar conversations between umpires and their VARs are available in MLS in the United States.

The audios will be posted to YouTube, giving supporters a chance to hear the referees make the calls.

For rugby and cricket, fans can follow the conversation in real-time as the matches are broadcast on TV and radio.

Former Fifa referee Howard Webb, who officiated the 2010 World Cup Final, is currently Head of Refereeing at MLS.

But he seems ready to return to the Premier League as the new chief referee.

It’s been a checkered summer for Mike Riley’s top officials.

Kevin Friend was the last to put on his whistle after fellow veterans Mike Dean, Jon Moss and Martin Atkinson retired.

PGMOL had previously announced that Tom Bramall, who has only been a referee for three seasons, was promoted to Select Group One and on to the Prem panel.
