Three Jefferson County residents, including a 20-year-old, died in less than 48 hours.

Authorities have released the names of two men killed in separate Jefferson County shootings over the Christmas holiday. The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified the victims as 35-year-old Brandon Montez McIlwain and 20-year-old Jerry Dewayne Robinson, both of Birmingham. A third, unidentified adult Black male was also killed Monday night.

The first shooting occurred Monday night in eastern Jefferson County. Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a person down on Polly Reed Road at 11:50 p.m., finding the victim suffering from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at UAB Hospital at 12:31 a.m. No arrests have been made in this case.

Nearly 24 hours later, at 9:59 p.m. on Tuesday, Hoover police responded to a 911 call at an apartment on Rime Village Drive. Officers found McIlwain suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite life-saving efforts, he was pronounced dead at UAB Hospital at 11:49 p.m. A 29-year-old acquaintance of the victim was detained. Detectives believe a physical altercation preceded the shooting, during which the suspect fired his weapon multiple times. A motive has not been released, and the evidence will be presented to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office for consideration of charges.

A third shooting occurred Christmas night in the Center Point area. Birmingham police and Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies responded to a report on 26th Avenue N.W. just before 8:30 p.m. Robinson was found shot in unincorporated Jefferson County, having run a block before collapsing within city limits. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating this incident.

So far this year, 195 people have been killed in Jefferson County, including 149 in Birmingham. Anyone with information on the two unincorporated Jefferson County homicides is urged to contact sheriff’s investigators at 205-325-1450 or Crime Stoppers at 205-254-7777.
