## British TV Shows Returning in 2025 and Beyond: A Den of Geek Roundup
Returning British TV shows offer a comforting familiarity: we’re already invested in the characters, the relationships, and the world they inhabit. There’s a certain intimacy that comes with watching a beloved series continue its story, a comfort absent from the often-daunting task of starting anew with a brand new show. So, settle in, because 2025 and beyond promise a wealth of returning favourites, from critically acclaimed thrillers to beloved comedies.
This list will be continuously updated as new commissions and release dates are announced.
Returning Series Highlights:
* Slow Horses (Apple TV+): Gary Oldman returns as the delightfully grumpy Jackson Lamb in the fifth series (with a sixth already commissioned!), continuing the spy thriller’s exploration of a Slough House MI5 outpost of disgraced agents. Filming concluded in summer 2024, with a mid-2025 release anticipated.
* Doctor Who (BBC): Ncuti Gatwa’s tenure as the Fifteenth Doctor continues with eight new episodes in 2025. The new series will feature the return of previous companion Ruby Sunday, alongside new companion Belinda Chandra (Varada Sethu), the UNIT gang, and Anita Dobson’s mysterious Mrs. Flood. The overarching narrative involves the Doctor’s attempts to return Belinda home, thwarted by mysterious forces.
* Black Mirror (Netflix): Six new episodes, including a sequel to “USS Callister” (featuring Cristin Milioti’s return), two feature-length installments, and a star-studded cast (Awkwafina, Peter Capaldi, Paul Giamatti, and more) are set to arrive in 2025.
* Gangs of London (Sky): The ultra-violent, stylish crime saga returns for a third series in 2025. A batch of spiked cocaine leads to multiple deaths, setting the stage for a new mystery involving returning cast members Joe Cole, Sopé Dìrísù, Michelle Fairley, and Lucian Msamati, alongside newcomers Richard Dormer and T’Nia Miller.
* Line of Duty’s Martin Compston, Emily Hampshire, Iain Glen, Owen Teale star in a new series of this eco-sci-fi thriller which will premiere on Prime Video in 2025.
* A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder (BBC Three): Following the success of the first series, a second season has been commissioned for this YA mystery series, starring Emma Myers as Pip.
* Big Boys (Channel 4): Jack Rooke’s autobiographically-inspired sitcom about university life will return for a third series, with filming completed in summer 2024.
