Hiroshima Animation Season 2024 Unveils Competition Lineup, Unveiling Diverse Global Showcase
Hiroshima, Japan (May 23, 2024) – The upcoming 2nd edition of Hiroshima Animation Season 2024 (HAS) has unveiled its competition lineup, showcasing an eclectic array of animated films from around the world. Selected from a staggering 2,634 entries representing 97 countries and regions, the festival will screen 78 films in competition.
Diverse Program Features Multiple Categories
The HAS competition program is divided into four distinct categories:
* Short Film Competition: Featuring four thematic categories (“Contemporary Tale,” “A Slice of Society,” “Fictive World,” and “Visual Poetry”), highlighting unique storytelling and artistic perspectives.
* Feature Competition: A showcase for five feature-length animated films, including highly anticipated works from both established and emerging filmmakers.
* Pan-Pacific and Asia Youth Competition: Celebrating the vibrant and innovative animation landscape of the Pan-Pacific and Asia regions, showcasing emerging talent and unique cultural perspectives.
* Japanese Commissioned Film Competition: Recognizing the exceptional commissioned animation produced within Japan, featuring collaborative projects between artists and organizations.
Prestigious Artistic Committee Curates Lineup
The HAS selection committee, comprised of prominent industry professionals, meticulously reviewed each submission. The committee included festival artistic director Koji Yamamura, festival co-producer Shizuka Miyazaki, animation artist Honami Yano, and producer Nobuaki Doi (advisor).
Networking and Collaboration Opportunities Abound
Beyond the competition, HAS 2024 introduces the Hiroshima Animation Academy & Meeting (HAM). This networking program will take place from August 15-17, alongside the festival, offering attendees a platform to connect, collaborate, and build industry relationships.
