Ten questions, four answers each, and one score at the end that you will immediately want to beat. This free Trivia Quiz deals you a fresh set of questions every game from the Open Trivia DB, a large community-built question bank. Pick from 24 categories — film, music, science, sports, geography, video games and more — choose how hard you want it, and answer against nobody but yourself. No timer, no sign-up, no leaderboard pressure: just you, ten questions, and the joy of knowing a thing nobody else in the room knew.
How the Trivia Quiz works
Press Start quiz and the tool fetches ten brand-new multiple-choice questions from the Open Trivia DB, filtered by your category and difficulty. The bank stores its text with web-encoding marks in it, so the tool first decodes every question and answer into clean text, then shuffles the four answers so the correct one lands in a different position each time — memorising “it is usually B” gets you nowhere. Your score is counted on your device; nothing is uploaded or saved.
How to use it
Choose a category, or leave it on Any category for a mixed set, and pick a difficulty — or Any for a blend. Press Start and click the answer you believe is right. The buttons lock the moment you choose: the correct answer turns green, a wrong pick turns red and the right answer is shown, and after a short pause the next question appears automatically. After the tenth you get your score out of ten with a short verdict, and Play again fetches a fresh set with the same settings.
Categories and difficulty, explained
The 24 categories range from General Knowledge, Books, Film, Music, Television and Video Games to Science & Nature, Computers, Sports, Geography, History, Politics, Animals, Vehicles and Comics. Depth varies: film and general knowledge are enormous, while a narrow category at hard difficulty can occasionally run dry — if so, the tool tells you honestly and suggests widening a filter. Easy questions are the kind a good pub team argues about for five seconds; medium mixes the familiar with the specific; hard goes deliberately obscure, into dates, minor characters and second-order facts. Any difficulty blends all three — the most pub-quiz-like game.
Scoring well
There is no timer, so the best tactic is to slow down before you click — once chosen, an answer cannot be changed. Read the whole question, including qualifiers like “NOT”, “first” and “largest”, which flip more answers than any knowledge gap. Then eliminate: most players can rule out two options immediately, turning a guess into a coin flip. And guess you should — a wrong answer scores the same zero as silence, so a 50-50 hunch is always worth taking. Finally, trust the answer that arrived first; second-guessing swaps away more correct answers than it rescues.
Playing with friends
The quiz works well as a pass-and-play party game on one screen. Read each question aloud, let everyone shout their answer before the player whose turn it is clicks, and keep a tally across rounds — Play again deals fresh questions each time, so rematches stay fair. Two house rules keep it lively: teams alternate who clicks, and anyone who disputes an answer has to beat it next round. With separate categories you can also run themed rounds — film, science — and crown a champion per topic.
Limitations worth knowing
The question bank is finite and community-contributed. Play enough games and questions will eventually repeat, and a rare one carries a debatable or slightly dated answer — corrected over time, but this is not an exam board. All questions are in English, category depth is uneven, and because questions load live, you need an internet connection. Scores live only on your screen: close the page and the result is gone — a limitation or a mercy, depending on the score.
Trivia Quiz – frequently asked questions
Is the Trivia Quiz free?
Yes. It is completely free, with no account, no sign-up and no limit on how many games you play.
Are the questions new every game?
Every game fetches a fresh set from the Open Trivia DB and reshuffles the answers. The bank is large, but play very often and you may eventually meet a question twice.
Is my score saved or shared?
No. Your score exists only on your screen during the game. Nothing is stored, uploaded or posted anywhere.
Why did it say no questions match my choices?
Some category-and-difficulty combinations have few or no questions in the bank. Switch one of the two filters back to Any and the game will start.
