In Memoriam: Mardell Bacon-Niemeyer, a Life of Education and Love
A Life Dedicated to Nurturing Young Minds
The Princeton community mourns the passing of Mardell Calvert Bacon-Niemeyer, an esteemed educator who touched the lives of countless students. Born in Chico, California, on December 16, 1937, Mardell’s passion for education began at a young age.
After graduating as Valedictorian from Princeton High School, Mardell pursued a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education and a Teaching Credential from Chico State. Her teaching career began after graduation, but she later paused to focus on raising her family.
A Return to the Classroom, Inspiring a New Generation
Mardell’s love for teaching could not be quenched, and she returned to her career as a Kindergarten Teacher at Whitney Avenue Elementary School. Even after retiring, her dedication to her students continued as she substitute taught at Princeton Elementary School well into her 70s.
Known for her unwavering enthusiasm and bag of books, Mardell’s students eagerly awaited her visits to their classrooms. Her unwavering commitment to education left a lasting impact on the lives of her young charges.
A Legacy of Love, Laughter, and Adventure
Beyond her career, Mardell was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. In 1958, she married Emmett M. Bacon, with whom she shared two children. Ten years after Emmett’s passing, Mardell rekindled her romance with her high school sweetheart, Pete Neimeyer, and they married in 1987.
Together, Mardell and Pete enjoyed traveling, collecting antiques, and spending precious time with their children and grandchildren. Her love for her family and friends knew no bounds, and she cherished every moment spent in their company.
A Committed Member of the Community
Mardell was an active and engaged member of her community. She was a longtime member of Sigma Alpha Sigma Sorority and Willows Valley Girls Red Hats. Through these organizations, she fostered strong relationships and contributed to various community initiatives.
Her unwavering support for local causes and her dedication to making a positive impact on her surroundings left an enduring legacy within the Princeton community.
Memorial Service
A memorial service to honor Mardell’s life and legacy will be held at Glenn Baptist Church in Glenn, California, on May 31st at 11:00 am. Following the service, a luncheon will be held to celebrate her memory and the joy she brought to so many lives.
Mardell’s family and friends invite all who knew and loved her to attend this special gathering. She will be deeply missed, but her spirit will forever live on through the countless lives she touched.
