Sidney, Maine – Friends and family gathered at the Augusta Civic Center on June 15 to celebrate the life of Joshua Thomas Nelson, 35, who passed away on June 5.

A Life Remembered

Nelson was born in Augusta and grew up in Sidney. He graduated from Sidney High School in 2005 and went on to attend the University of Maine at Farmington. After graduating from college, Nelson worked as a carpenter and was known for his love of the outdoors and his passion for music.

Nelson was a kind and caring person who always put others before himself. He was a loving son, brother, and friend, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Celebration of Life

The celebration of life was attended by over 200 people and featured music, readings, and personal reflections from friends and family.

Nelson’s mother, Susan, spoke about her son’s love of life and his dedication to making the world a better place.

“Josh was always smiling and always willing to help others,” she said. “He was a true friend and a loving son. We will miss him dearly.”

Nelson’s sister, Emily, spoke about her brother’s love of music and his dream of becoming a musician.

“Josh was an amazing guitarist and singer,” she said. “He had a natural talent for music and he loved to share his gift with others.”

Nelson’s friends spoke about his sense of humor and his ability to make everyone laugh.

“Josh was the life of the party,” said one friend. “He always knew how to make people smile and he always had a positive attitude.”

Legacy of Kindness

Nelson’s family has established a scholarship in his memory to help other young people pursue their dreams.

The Joshua Thomas Nelson Scholarship will be awarded to a graduating senior from Sidney High School who plans to pursue a career in music or the arts.

Nelson’s legacy will continue to live on through the lives of the young people who benefit from this scholarship.
