A Pillar of the Bingham Community
Jeanette A. (Rollins) Jacques, a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, and lifelong resident of Bingham, Maine, passed away peacefully on June 3, 2024, at Maine Medical Center in Portland. Her passing leaves a profound void in the community she dedicated her life to serving.
Early Life and Family
Jeanette was born on January 10, 1937, to Everett and Barbara (Wagner) Rollins. She grew up in Bingham and graduated from Bingham High School in 1954. It was during her high school years that she met her future husband, Robert A. Jacques, who became her lifelong partner. They married in December 1954 and built their family home in Bingham, where they raised their five children: Robert Jr., Mark, Sheila, Jeffrey, and Andrew.
A Multifaceted Career and Community Service
Throughout her life, Jeanette pursued numerous professions, exemplifying her versatility and unwavering commitment to her community. She worked as a bookkeeper, bank teller, and registrar of voters. However, it was her 43 years as Bingham Town Clerk that left an indelible mark on the town. She was also an Intermediate Emergency Medical Technician (EMT-I) for UKVAS for 40 years, earning the State of Maine EMS Merit Award in 2000.
Jeanette’s dedication to public service extended beyond these roles. She was the Dedimus Justice, Town Treasurer, and played a vital role in operating the family’s auto parts business for 36 years. She later assisted her son Andy in his business for an additional 35 years.
A Passion for the Outdoors and Family
Jeanette’s love for the outdoors was evident in her hobbies and recreational activities. She was an avid swimmer and enjoyed skiing at Baker Mountain in the winter. Summers were spent boating and swimming at the family’s camp on Embden Pond. She was also a dedicated bluebird enthusiast, finding joy in their cheerful presence.
Above all, Jeanette cherished her family. She hosted memorable holiday gatherings where over 20 guests would gather for delicious meals and laughter. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, attending their sporting events and creating lasting memories at the family camp.
Legacy of Love and Service
Jeanette Jacques will be remembered for her unwavering love for her family, her dedication to her community, and her infectious smile. Her legacy of service and kindness will continue to inspire those who knew her.
She is survived by her loving husband, Robert Jacques; her children, Robert Jr., Mark (Laurie), Sheila (Frankie), Jeffrey (Mary), and Andrew (Beatrice); 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and her brother, Christopher Rollins. She was predeceased by her parents; siblings Capt. Everett Rollins Jr. and Reginald Rollins; and grandson Adrian Jacques.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, June 28 at 11 a.m., in the Robinson Cemetery, in Moscow, with a reception to follow. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Giberson Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Robert and Jeanette Jacques Scholarship Fund at Valley High School.
