Obituary: Warren M. Poulin, Renowned Attorney and History Enthusiast

Warren M. Poulin

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Warren Maurice Poulin, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and esteemed member of the Winslow community. Warren passed away peacefully at his home on May 25, 2024, surrounded by his loving family after a brief illness.

Born on October 30, 1938, in the midst of Orson Welles’ infamous Martian invasion broadcast, Warren embarked on a remarkable life filled with academic excellence, legal acumen, and a passion for history. The day of his birth carried a unique symbolism, reflecting his lifelong fascination with the intricacies of the human experience.

Warren’s academic achievements began early in his life. As President of his Winslow High School Class of 1956, a member of the National Honor Society, and recipient of All-State Football Honorable Mention, he exhibited a rare combination of intellectual curiosity and athleticism.

His pursuit of knowledge continued at Suffolk University, where he earned his BS degree, followed by an MBA from Northeastern University and a JD from Suffolk University Law School. Warren’s legal career spanned over five decades, during which time he became a respected figure in the Waterville-Winslow area. As a member of both the Massachusetts and Maine bars, he practiced law with distinction, earning the admiration of clients and colleagues alike.

Beyond his legal expertise, Warren was a voracious reader and lifelong learner. His particular passion for WWII history led him to delve deeply into the subject, exploring its complexities and human dimensions. He traveled extensively throughout Europe, visiting historic sites and seeking a firsthand understanding of the events that shaped the course of the war.

Warren’s love for the outdoors was another defining aspect of his life. An avid hunter and hiker, he spent countless hours exploring the natural beauty of Maine. He enjoyed gardening, repairing vintage outboard motors, and reading in his recliner while the crackling fire provided a cozy ambiance.

Warren’s family held a special place in his heart. He is survived by his devoted wife of over 54 years, Patricia (Carroll); daughter Aimée Poulin and son-in-law John Hopkins; son Nathan Poulin and daughter-in-law Betsy Melrose; and his cherished grandchildren, Raegan and Preston. His siblings Michael and Thomas, as well as his predeceased brother Leonard D. Poulin, Sr., also mourn his passing.

Warren’s legacy extends beyond his immediate family to the many lives he touched throughout his life. He will be remembered as a brilliant attorney, a passionate historian, and a dedicated family man. His spirit of inquiry, his love for the written word, and his appreciation for the natural world will continue to inspire those who knew him.
