Mary-Margaret Luz, Beloved Mother, Grandmother, and Friend, Passes Away at 74
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mary-Margaret W. (Cappella) Luz, who died peacefully at Pleasant Valley Nursing and Rehab Center on Sunday, August 4, 2024.
A Life Filled with Love and Family
Mary-Margaret was born on July 11, 1950, in Lowell, Massachusetts, to the late Winifred (Connolly) Cohen. She was a graduate of Notre Dame Academy, Class of 1967. Mary-Margaret’s greatest joy was spending time with her family. She loved hosting family gatherings for every holiday, birthday, and special occasion.
Mary-Margaret was known for her exceptional baking skills, particularly her pies. Her grandchildren especially adored her famous apple pie.
In addition to her family, Mary-Margaret had a lifelong love for her cats. She also enjoyed camping, playing bingo, and listening to music. In her younger years, she loved going dancing at the Commodore.
Cherished Memories and Legacy
Mary-Margaret will be dearly missed by her children, Lennie Luz and his wife Danielle of Lowell, Mark Luz and his wife Dawn of Bedford, NH, and Beth Barela of Arizona; her grandchildren, Cameron, Coleman, and Jessica Luz, Ronald Ricard, Nikolas and Jillian Luz, and Alyssa, Katie, and Delia Barela; her brothers, Jay Cohen, Curtt Shay, and Clark Shay, Jr.; her lifelong friend, Susan Smith; and many other family members and friends.
She was predeceased by her son, David C. Luz, Sr., and grandson, David C. Luz, Jr.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, from 4-7 PM at the McKenna-Ouellette Funeral Home, 327 Hildreth Street, Lowell, MA. Her funeral service will be held on Thursday at 10 AM at St. Patrick Cemetery, Lowell, MA.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mary-Margaret’s memory to the Lowell Humane Society, 951 Broadway Street, Lowell, MA 01854.
Mary-Margaret’s family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff at Pleasant Valley Nursing and Rehab Center for their compassionate care during her final days.
