In Nagarkurnool, Telangana, District Collector Badavath Santosh and SP Gaikwad Vaibhav Raghunath launched an awareness campaign for National Road Safety Month. The launch, held Saturday in the video conference hall, included the unveiling of informational pamphlets and stickers. Collector Santosh highlighted the critical issue of road safety, emphasizing that human error is the leading cause of accidents, disproportionately affecting the 18-45 age group. He urged officials to implement proactive measures to significantly reduce accident rates.
To improve road safety, the Collector instructed the Roads and Buildings (R&B) department to install reflective signboards at all blind spots along district roads. Further improvements, including the strategic placement of speed breakers, CCTV cameras, zebra crossings, improved lighting, and road reflectors, were also mandated. He also recommended educational awareness programs, suggesting essay and drawing competitions for students, with awards presented on Republic Day.
Expanding on the awareness initiatives, Collector Santosh proposed Rangoli competitions centered on road safety, to be held on the Collectorate premises, with winners also recognized on January 26th. He implemented a strict new policy, making helmet use mandatory for all two-wheeler riders entering the Collectorate. Those arriving without helmets will be denied entry; however, arrangements will be made to facilitate helmet purchases at the gate.
The meeting was attended by District Transport Officer Chinna Balu, DEO A. Ramesh Kumar, the R&B Executive Engineer, traffic police officials, and representatives from various other departments.
