Chicago City Comptroller Chasse Rehwinkel has announced his resignation to accept a position as CFO of Devon Bank. The community bank has branches in Chicago, Glenview, and Wheeling.
Rehwinkel shared the news on X (formerly Twitter), expressing gratitude for his time in public service. He stated, “In my career I have been blessed to working as the Chicago Comptroller as well as State Bank Director—amongst other amazing opportunities. I’ve met some truly amazing people and worked on incredible things. But the time has come for the next adventure! I’m excited to join a new team, but will always be thankful for the many amazing public servants I’ve worked with in my career.”
His departure comes on the heels of a challenging budget process for Mayor Brandon Johnson’s administration. The City Council ultimately rejected Johnson’s initial proposal for a $300 million property tax increase, instead approving a budget without any tax increase last week. In a news release celebrating the budget’s passage, Rehwinkel stated, “This plan ensures Chicagoans can count on their government to deliver full, uninterrupted services. From keeping streets clean to ensuring safe and healthy neighborhoods, we are committed to upholding the trust our residents place in us every day.”
Details regarding Rehwinkel’s last day in office remain unavailable.
