Before you trust a price you saw in a screenshot, check it live. This free crypto price checker pulls current prices from CoinGecko for Bitcoin, Ethereum and the rest of the top 20 coins, showing each one in US dollars and euros together with its 24-hour change, coloured green or red so the direction is obvious at a glance. You can also look up almost any other listed coin by typing its CoinGecko ID.
How the crypto price checker works
The tool asks CoinGecko’s free simple-price endpoint for one coin at a time, requesting US dollar and euro prices plus the 24-hour percentage change in a single call. CoinGecko aggregates trading data from hundreds of exchanges worldwide, so the figure it returns is a market-wide average rather than the price on any one platform. When the answer arrives, the checker formats both prices as large, readable numbers and colours the change: green with an up arrow (▲) for a rise, red with a down arrow (▼) for a fall. Nothing is stored on this page — every check is a fresh request, so the price you see is the one CoinGecko is reporting at that moment.
How to use it
Choose a coin from the list — it covers the top 20, from Bitcoin and Ethereum through Solana, XRP, Dogecoin and Aptos — then press Check price. Bitcoin loads automatically when the page opens. To look beyond the list, type a CoinGecko coin ID into the custom box: a filled custom box always wins over the dropdown. IDs are usually the coin’s lowercase name, with a few famous exceptions such as avalanche-2 for Avalanche and binancecoin for BNB, both already correct in the list. If an ID matches nothing, the tool tells you instead of guessing.
What the 24-hour change really means
The percentage next to each price compares the current price with the price exactly 24 hours earlier, in the same currency. A reading of +3.40% means the coin is worth about 3.4% more than a day ago — no more, no less. It is not a trend, a forecast or a measure of a good investment, and in crypto a double-digit daily move is unremarkable. The dollar and euro changes differ slightly, because the euro–dollar rate also moved during those 24 hours. Traders also watch market capitalisation — price times circulating supply — which explains why a coin priced in cents can be worth more overall than one priced in hundreds of dollars.
How CoinGecko aggregates prices
No single exchange sets “the” Bitcoin price. CoinGecko collects trades from spot markets across many exchanges, converts them into a common currency and weights them, broadly by volume, into one global average per coin. That is why the price here can differ slightly from your exchange app, which shows only its own order book. Small gaps are normal; large, persistent gaps on one venue warn about its liquidity.
A plain warning about volatility
Cryptocurrencies are among the most volatile assets ordinary buyers can reach. Prices routinely move 5–10% in a day and far more in a crisis, driven by thin weekend liquidity, leveraged trading liquidations and single headlines. A price checked this morning can be stale by lunch. Never spend money you cannot afford to lose on the strength of a green percentage, and treat any source promising guaranteed returns as a scam until proven otherwise.
Limitations worth knowing
CoinGecko’s free service is rate-limited: if many visitors check prices at once you may see a message asking you to wait a minute and retry — that limit is CoinGecko’s, and retrying shortly afterwards normally works. Prices exclude the fees and spreads your exchange will charge, and very small or newly listed coins may be missing or thinly traded.
Rates are indicative only and not financial advice.
Crypto Price Checker – frequently asked questions
Is the crypto price checker free?
Yes. It is free, needs no sign-up, and every check fetches a fresh price.
Why does the price differ from my exchange app?
CoinGecko shows a volume-weighted average across many exchanges, while your app shows only its own market. Small differences are normal and expected.
What does the 24-hour change measure?
How much the price has risen or fallen, in percentage terms, since exactly 24 hours ago. It describes the past day only.
Can I check a coin that is not in the top 20?
Yes. Type its CoinGecko ID into the custom box — usually the lowercase coin name — and the custom entry overrides the dropdown selection.
