Depp Traumatized by Scissorhands Dad

Lily-Rose Depp, the daughter of Johnny Depp, recently revealed a surprising childhood memory: her trauma stemming from watching her father’s 1990 film, *Edward Scissorhands*, at the tender age of three. Speaking with *Harper’s Bazaar*, she recounted a specific scene near the end, where the townspeople, once enamored with Edward’s talents, cruelly reject him, sending him back to his dilapidated mansion. This scene deeply affected the young Lily-Rose. She explained, “I was traumatized by it. Not because I thought he was scary, but because everyone was being so mean to him, and I got really upset.”

This seemingly innocuous scene left a lasting impression, becoming a difficult childhood memory that she still recalls vividly over two decades later. The experience was so impactful that she compared it to her feelings about Count Orlok in *Nosferatu*, noting, “Edward’s the good guy and Nosferatu’s kind of the bad guy, but there’s a part of me that feels a little bit of empathy for Nosferatu. I mean, am I sick for feeling that way?” This unexpected connection highlights the complex emotional responses evoked by even seemingly straightforward narratives.

The incident also prompted reflection on her own acting career and its potential connection to her father’s. While acknowledging their distinct styles, she conceded, “I guess you could say so. We’re very different actors, but of course, you’re the product of your environment, and it’s a world I’ve always been very interested in,” referencing the gothic world established in *Edward Scissorhands*, the first collaboration between her father and Tim Burton.

Despite both appearing in films like Kevin Smith’s *Tusk* and *Yoga Hosers*, Lily-Rose and Johnny Depp have yet to share the screen in a substantial father-daughter pairing. However, *Edward Scissorhands* continues to resonate with audiences, and the anecdote serves as a poignant reminder of the unexpected ways childhood experiences and family legacies can shape our perspectives.
