Use the free Fake Test Data Generator below: your data never leaves your browser — all work happens on your device, and nothing is uploaded to any server.
Why Test Data Must Be Fake
Every form, database, and demo needs data to test with, and real data is the worst choice for that job. Real names, emails, and addresses belong to real people, and copying them into a test system risks leaks, breaches privacy rules, and pollutes results with data you cannot share or reproduce. Fake data solves all three problems at once: it looks realistic enough to exercise the code, it harms nobody if it leaks, and it can be regenerated exactly when a test needs repeating.
Good fake data also catches bugs that empty or single-row tests miss. A list with varied name lengths finds layout breaks. Addresses with different formats find parsing errors. A batch of fifty rows finds pagination and sorting problems that five rows hide. The generator above produces rows from fixed sample lists built into the page, so the output is always clearly fake, always safe to paste anywhere, and never fetched from a server or tied to a real person.
How to Use the Generator
Choose how many rows you need, up to fifty, and tick the fields you want: name, email, address, company, and phone. Press Generate for a readable list, or switch to JSON for code and APIs, or CSV for spreadsheets and database imports. The Copy button puts the current output on the clipboard, so you can paste it straight into a form, a test file, or a seed script.
The optional seed is the most useful feature for serious testing. Without a seed, every run is different, which is fine for a quick demo. With a seed, the same rows come back every time, so a failing test can be reproduced exactly, and a teammate can generate the same dataset you used. That repeatability is what turns random data into a real test fixture. Pick a seed, write it in the test notes, and the data becomes part of the test, not a mystery behind it.
Designed to Be Obviously Fake
Every email ends in example.com, a domain reserved by standard specifically for examples, so no generated email can reach a real inbox. Every phone number starts with 555-01, in the range reserved for fictional use, so no generated number can ring a real person. Names come from common first and last name lists, combined at random, so a generated name may resemble a real person’s name by chance, but it carries no real email, address, or phone behind it. The combination is what makes data dangerous, and here the combination is invented from start to finish.
This matters for screenshots and demos too. A demo filled with example.com addresses and 555 numbers signals to every viewer that the data is staged, which is exactly what you want. A demo filled with plausible real-looking data invites questions about where it came from, and sometimes a complaint from the person whose details appear. Use the generator’s output for slides, videos, documentation, and training, and you never have to blur a field or explain a source.
What Fake Data Cannot Do
Fake data tests shape, not truth. It proves a form accepts names and emails, not that your validation matches real-world rules for every country. It proves a report renders fifty rows, not that your queries are fast on fifty million. It also cannot test anything that needs a real mailbox, a real phone, or a real payment, because those paths need real providers and real consent. Use fake data for development and interface tests, and use controlled staging accounts with explicit permission for anything that touches a real service.
One more caution: do not use generated identities to create accounts on services that expect real people, to evade limits, or to deceive anyone. Fake data is a testing tool, and its legitimacy comes from the context: your own systems, your own demos, your own tests. Used there, it is one of the simplest ways to make development faster, safer, and more honest about what is real and what is staged.
