Florence Atwater Van Dyke Anderson, known as Flodie, passed away peacefully on May 10, 2023, at Frasier Meadows retirement community in Boulder, Colorado. She was 94 years old.

Born in Middletown, Connecticut, on January 1, 1929, Flodie was the daughter of Karl Skillman Van Dyke and Lua Stewart Docking Van Dyke. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in mathematics from Wellesley College in 1950. On August 26, 1950, she married John Anderson, an architect.

Flodie’s civic engagement spanned decades. She was a founding member of the Regional Transportation District (RTD) board and served as its chair. She also served on the Colorado Transportation Commission, the Colorado State House Ethics Panel, and the Supreme Court Nominating Commission.

Flodie was an active supporter of the Arts. She was president of the Evergreen Area Council for the Arts and volunteered at the Denver Art Museum for 30 years. She and her husband, John, were recognized with the Dana Crawford Award for Excellence in Historic Preservation in 2004.

Flodie is survived by her two sons, Robert and David Anderson; four grandchildren, Hannah, Grace, Elsa, and Will; and three great-grandchildren, Robin, Aurelia, and Homer. She was predeceased by her husband John Anderson and her siblings Karl, Jr., Louise, and Muriel.

A memorial service will be held for family and friends at Frasier Meadows on Thursday, May 30, at 2 pm. Donations in her memory may be made to the Frasier Meadows Caring for Others fund, the Denver Art Museum, or the League of Women Voters.
