Gayle (Couch) McGlothlin, 84, of Kingsport, Tennessee, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loved ones on Saturday, December 7, 2024. Born in Greenville, South Carolina, she moved to Kingsport at a young age. There, she met and married the love of her life, Phil McGlothlin. Together, they formed half of the renowned McGlothlin Quartet, alongside her brother-in-law, Kit McGlothlin, and Bob McGlothlin. The quartet, established in 1960, enjoyed a remarkable fifty-year ministry, concluding their service in 2010.
Mrs. McGlothlin was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 35 years, Phil McGlothlin; her second husband, Rev. Olen Cassell; her brother, David Couch; and her sister, Doris Edwards. She is survived by her son, Greg McGlothlin and his wife Edie; her daughter, Gena Martin and her husband Joe; her grandson, Gaines McGlothlin; her step-children, Steve Cassell, Gail Hutchins, Kim McCann, and Joe Cassell; and a host of friends and extended family.
A private graveside service will be held at Walnut Chapel Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, with Pastor David Salley officiating. Pallbearers will be David Couch, Jon Couch, Jason Couch, Derrick McGlothlin, Mark McGlothlin, and Gaines McGlothlin. Honorary pallbearers include Kit McGlothlin, Bob McGlothlin, Wayne Duncan, and Wayne Bledsoe.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM on Thursday, December 12, 2024, at the Higher Ground Family Life Center. Condolences may be offered to the family online at www.cartertrent.com. Arrangements are under the care of Carter-Trent Funeral Home in Kingsport.
