The creature itself is a marvel of stop-motion animation, a testament to the artistry and dedication of the crew. As revealed in a behind-the-scenes video, the seemingly random debris clinging to Tet’niss’ shell is meticulously chosen. Dubeau explains that he incorporated “as many little bits from model kits that were used on the original films [as he could],” resulting in a surprisingly detailed homage to the franchise’s history.
A closer look reveals iconic droid parts hidden amongst the junk: a complete R2-D2, the upper half of C-3PO, and a portion of K-2SO. While these aren’t the actual droids themselves – their canonical fates preclude that – the inclusion serves as a playful nod to the legacy of Star Wars and the creators’ deep affection for its past. It’s a charming detail, a far cry from simply scattering random pieces and calling it a day. This dedication to detail aligns perfectly with the show’s previous homage, the recreation of the holographic circus from the infamous Star Wars Holiday Special.
